It calms her nerves
Least that's what she tells me
When she runs out
And directs me to buy her another pack
"It calms my nerves"
She says
Thinking to myself
"It gets on mine
Truthfully"
Newport 100's
"The soft pack"
Over the years I’ve thought of 100
Different reasons to hate
"the soft pack" and Newports in general
Over the years I've seen her dependence on
This addiction grow
As her patience decreased
As a kid I always grew angry at the commercials
NEWPORT! ALIVE WITH PLEASURE
Addiction gets the best of us no matter that the vice is
We seldom see the effect our addictions have on the people around us
And that’s the most warped part about this story
Though life I had to cope with understanding
How to live with her addiction
Imagine how many of our friends and family live with ours
NEWPORT! ALIVE WITH PLEASURE
This phrase made me cringe with each commercial
Each time I had to subject myself to being an
Instrument in her demise
A slow downfall
Because It "eases her nerves"
Countless soft packs in a plastic bag one day
I must have counted 500 of them
This was in 1997
So imagine how many have been consumed since then
Instruments in her demise
We are often plagued in this ritual
As addiction holds no prisoner
It triggers us compulsive
Addicted to bad luck and bad choices in people
Bad memories and bad judgment
I guess the operating word is bad
This describes the emotions deep inside
A burden of guilt comes over me
Yet I want her happy
That's all i ever wanted
A BURDEN...... OF GUILT..... COMES OVER ME
Every time I purchase
This instrument to her demise
